Releasing a giant bluefin tuna boatside with the PRATIKO releaser

PRATIKO Fishing Equipment — Made in Italy

PRATIKO

Professional Tuna Releaser

Return a 400 kg-plus monster to the sea in perfect condition.
A releaser, a Boga grip, made entirely by hand by Signor Luciano
in the Marche region of Italy.

Not a tool for taking.
A tool for giving back.

PRATIKO is a Boga grip built for the catch-and-release of big game.
Each one is made entirely by hand, one by one, by craftsmen in the Marche region of Italy.
It was tested and developed on countless oversized fish — 300 kg-class bluefin tuna
off Prince Edward Island in Canada, giant grouper in Florida, and more.

“Signor Luciano ha sviluppato la migliore attrezzatura per la pesca al volo, realizzata artigianalmente nella regione Marche, in Italia — prodotti di qualità superiore che rispettano l’ambiente e gli ecosistemi.”

Meeting PRATIKO

During the years I travelled often to Italy, I came to know a close friend, Makoto Sugawara, who runs the shoe shop “Sugawara” in Morioka, Iwate, and Sendai, Miyagi. Introduced through a mutual friend in Milan, he turned out to be a great lover of fishing.

Southern Italy — dusk with close friends.

Italy, fishing, and friendship.

From then on, our friendship deepened with every trip to Italy — chasing tuna down in Bari in the south whenever work allowed, gathering to fish along the Hokuriku coast. As my work came to centre on fishing and my visits to Italy grew less frequent, Sugawara — fluent in Italian — introduced me to this Italian-made “PRATIKO.”

Sugawara is a leading figure and a true fashionista of the Italian fashion world.

Imported directly from Marche.

At first Sugawara served as the point of contact in Japan, selling to charter tuna boats in the Tohoku region; as his own business grew busier, my company took it over. Today, having been introduced to Luciano, the maker himself, we import directly from the Marche region.

Why PRATIKO

Each PRATIKO is made entirely by hand, one by one, by Luciano.
As a “releaser Boga grip” that can reliably release tuna of 400 kg and more, it is a one-of-a-kind tool, cherished by anglers around the world.

Catch & Release

Built for catch & release

It holds a large fish firmly by the jaw. While moving water sends oxygen across the gills, you remove the hook and release the fish in perfect condition — returning the life you took to the sea in its very best state.

02

⚖️

Regulation Ready

Meets strict regulations

Developed to clear the strict regulations overseas, it is ideally suited to Japan's bluefin tuna catch regulations as well. When a tuna is hooked while sport fishing, it makes a swift release possible.

Stainless Build

Material & construction

The dependable stainless-steel (SUS) model. Consistent in durability and ease of use, it is a genuine tool you can keep using for years in the punishing conditions offshore.

CARBONINO — lightweight carbon model

The latest “CARBONINO” lightweight carbon model is also available.
Its lightness is appealing, but for its proven durability and stability over long-term use, and for the way it sits easily on the jaw, we recommend our standard SUS (stainless steel) model.

Handling notes

01

Squeeze the grip and the arms open; release it and the arms close to clamp the jaw.

02

It takes some practice to handle, so before use always secure it to the boat with rope or similar to prevent it being lost overboard.

03

As it is handmade in Italy, there may be slight unevenness in the finish or minor marks within a range that does not affect use. Please understand this in advance.
